Remove Stable Diffusion metadata from a PNG or export
A Stable Diffusion PNG often carries the recipe in a text chunk: the prompt, the seed, the sampler, and sometimes a full node graph. That is ordinary file metadata. Stripping it keeps the picture and drops the recipe. It does not make the picture undetectable.
Cleans metadata in your browser. SynthID and TrustMark stay in the pixels. A cleaned file does not force Instagram to drop a label.

Do it in the tool, in this order
- Drop the JPEG, PNG, or WebP you will actually publish. Try sample only shows what a report looks like.
- Set the mode to AI only.
- Press Inspect only if you want to look. Press Clean this file to strip. The same press re-scans the result, and the After column is that new scan of the cleaned bytes.
- Press Download cleaned image. Upload that file. The name ends in
-cleaned.
Automatic1111 writes parameters
The default PNG save adds a tEXt chunk whose key is parameters. The value is one text
block: positive prompt, negative prompt, steps, sampler, CFG scale, seed, width and height, model name, and
model hash, plus whatever an extension appended. Anyone who opens PNG info can read it. There is no signature
and no C2PA manifest in that chunk.
AI provenance mode on the tool above deletes PNG text chunks whose keys are parameters,
prompt, sd-metadata, Comment, or Software. Press
Inspect only first so you see the key name. Press Clean this file and
download only when that line is gone from the After column. The checker for “what is in the file before I
decide” is how to check photo AI metadata.
ComfyUI writes prompt and usually workflow
ComfyUI’s save path stores the API prompt as a text chunk named prompt, and the UI graph as a text
chunk named workflow, unless metadata was disabled on the server. The prompt chunk is in the AI
provenance key list. The workflow chunk is not. A workflow JSON can be large, and it can include checkpoint
paths and LoRA filenames from the machine that rendered it. That is a reason to remove it before you post the
PNG, separate from any social label.
If the After report still shows Text chunk (workflow), switch the mode to
Strip all detected metadata and verify again. Strip-all drops tEXt,
iTXt, and zTXt chunks. Privacy mode also drops textual chunks, and it drops EXIF and
C2PA. Use the After column, not the mode name, as the proof.
JPEG and WebP hide the same recipe in EXIF
When the UI saves a JPEG or WebP, the parameters often move into an EXIF comment rather than a PNG key. AI provenance will not throw away ordinary EXIF just because the comment looks like a prompt. The After report will still list EXIF. Run strip-all for that export. WebP XMP is removed by strip-all as well.
This is the opposite default from a ChatGPT download, where the thing you came to delete is a C2PA manifest and AI provenance is enough for that manifest. OpenAI’s watermark problem is ChatGPT image metadata. A signed manifest, if you added a C2PA node yourself, is Content Credentials and remove C2PA. Stock Stable Diffusion output does not grow a manifest by itself.
What you should not expect
- The seed cannot be reconstructed from the pixels after the chunk is gone. It also cannot be reconstructed by this tool if you only have a screenshot.
- No pixel watermark is removed. If a model or an extension embedded one, it stays.
- Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok do not read your
parameterschunk as a Settings toggle. They can still label the upload. A clean file does not force the badge off. - MP4 and the ComfyUI video saves are out of scope. Export a still JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
Midjourney’s site download is a different container, usually not this PNG key: Midjourney export metadata. One file is free. A folder of PNGs is the batch unlock.

Questions
What is in the Automatic1111 parameters chunk?
The prompt, negative prompt, sampler settings, seed, size, and model details, as plain text. AI provenance removes that chunk from a PNG.
Why is workflow still listed?
AI provenance targets named generation keys, including prompt, and does not treat every text key as
one of them. Strip-all removes the remaining PNG text chunks. Verify before you download.
Why did a JPEG keep the prompt?
The recipe is in EXIF. AI provenance keeps that segment. Strip-all removes it.
Does a cleaned file lose its platform label?
No. You removed a recipe from the file. You did not remove a watermark, and you did not change a label the platform applies on its own.
The general PNG picture, with a table of every chunk type and what each mode leaves, is on remove metadata from PNG.

Questions people ask
What does Automatic1111 store in a PNG?
A tEXt chunk named parameters. The text is the prompt, negative prompt, sampler, steps, CFG, seed, size, and model details. AI provenance mode removes that chunk. The pixels stay.
Does AI provenance remove a ComfyUI workflow?
It removes a text chunk named prompt. A separate workflow chunk is not in that key list. If the After report still says Text chunk (workflow), run strip-all, which drops PNG text chunks, and verify again.
I exported a JPEG. Why is the recipe still there after AI provenance?
Those UIs often put the same recipe in EXIF UserComment on JPEG and WebP. AI provenance keeps ordinary EXIF. Strip-all removes that EXIF segment. Check the After report before you upload.
Will a cleaned PNG be undetectable, or lose an Instagram label?
No. Removing the recipe stops someone from reading the seed and the prompt out of the file. It does not remove a pixel watermark, and it does not force Instagram, Facebook, or any other platform to drop a label.
