What LinkedIn Content Credentials are

What they are. LinkedIn Content Credentials are a signed C2PA record of where a piece of media came from and how it was edited. LinkedIn marks an image or video that still has that record with the CR icon. Its help center calls the same mark the C2PA icon.

When LinkedIn shows it. The icon appears on an image or video you upload that still has that signed record. Photos from a camera, and stories from a newsroom, can carry the same kind of record. It is not a separate decision that the picture is AI-generated. LinkedIn says the feature is rolling out gradually, so some accounts do not see the icon yet.

What the panel lists. LinkedIn’s help says a click shows the signer’s assertion about the media (including whether that signer says AI was used to generate or edit any part), the app or device, who created the media, who issued and signed the credential, and the date and time it was issued. That assertion is the issuer’s statement. This site does not re-judge it.

How to remove it before you post. Strip the manifest from the JPEG, PNG, or WebP, then upload that file. A post LinkedIn already stored keeps the icon until you replace the upload.

Cleans metadata in your browser. SynthID and TrustMark stay in the pixels. A cleaned file does not force Instagram to drop a label.

Do it in the tool, in this order

  1. Drop the JPEG, PNG, or WebP you will actually publish. Try sample only shows what a report looks like.
  2. Set the mode to AI only.
  3. Press Inspect only if you want to look. Press Clean this file to strip. The same press re-scans the result, and the After column is that new scan of the cleaned bytes.
  4. Press Download cleaned image. Upload that file. The name ends in -cleaned.

What a missing icon does not mean

LinkedIn also says it is not yet possible to identify and label all AI-generated and modified content. A missing icon is silence, not a finding that the image was made by a person. If the question is whether that panel is an “AI-generated” badge, use LinkedIn’s AI-generated label versus the CR icon.

Why a crop or a caption leaves the icon where it is

The composer does not include a control that deletes the credential from an image you already posted. Caption edits, alt text, and a crop inside the composer change the post LinkedIn keeps. They do not hand back the original container. Saving the picture from the feed gives you the rendition LinkedIn served, which is the wrong file to strip if you still have the export you attached. There is no account setting that removes credentials from every future image.

The same icon can appear on video. This cleaner opens still images only (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, BMP), so a video post is out of scope. For Sponsored Content, LinkedIn’s help says the icon on a single-image or video ad shows up when that media is uploaded, including ads built in Campaign Manager and posts sponsored from a Company Page. The file you upload is still the file that has to be clean. The ad surface does not add a strip control. The live-post case, step by step, is remove the CR icon before you post.

Steps

1

Export the still you will attach

Use the JPEG, PNG, or WebP from the editor, the camera export, or the generator download. An iPhone HEIC works in this browser tool and comes back as a clean JPEG. A screenshot of the CR icon is a picture of the interface. Cleaning it does not edit the live post.

2

Read this file, not the feed

Drop that export into the tool above, in AI provenance mode, and press Inspect only. A C2PA line means this container has a manifest LinkedIn can display. IPTC DigitalSourceType and Content Credentials XMP sit in the same report when a tool wrote them. If you only needed the check, stop on check if an image has C2PA credentials. An empty C2PA line means this scan did not find a manifest in this file. If the icon is on a live post and this file is already empty, another pass on the same bytes will not move the icon.

3

Upload the verified download

When the Before column lists a manifest, press Clean this file and download only after the After column no longer lists that C2PA chip. The download name ends in -cleaned. Attach that file. If the post is already live, publish the verified file as a new image upload when your workflow allows a replacement. Comments on the old post stay there.

The strip itself is Remove C2PA Content Credentials. The split between the manifest, a cloud copy, and a platform mark is what Content Credentials are.

Honest limits

The cleaner strips metadata from the file before you upload it. AI provenance, the mode on this page, removes the C2PA manifest and Content Credentials XMP and leaves ordinary camera EXIF. Strip-all also clears EXIF and the remaining XMP. LinkedIn’s help describes the icon for media that still has that C2PA information attached.

A cloud record is a different object. Adobe’s Content Authenticity tools, and similar signers, can attach a credential to the export and publish a copy. Rewriting the JPEG does not delete the published record, and it does not un-verify a LinkedIn profile.

An invisible watermark is also a different object. The C2PA explainer says a manifest is usually embedded, and can also be tied to the pixels with a soft binding such as a watermark. SynthID and TrustMark live in the pixels. This site does not remove those marks. Can you remove SynthID from an image?

If you write in the post that the media was AI-generated, that sentence is not a tag inside the file, and deleting the manifest does not unsay it. Platforms may require you to disclose AI-generated media. Removing a credential from a JPEG is not a way to skip that duty.

A PDF, a document, and a video stay out of scope even when LinkedIn accepts them. Exporting one frame and cleaning the frame does not rewrite the video. A photograph that also has GPS is the privacy pass on delivery metadata. AI provenance keeps GPS.

Questions

Is the CR icon LinkedIn’s AI-generated label?

No. LinkedIn’s help describes the icon as a display of a signed C2PA credential, including credentials on camera photos. The panel can include the signer’s assertion that AI was used. That assertion is not a separate badge. The difference from Instagram’s AI info label is on the LinkedIn AI-generated label page.

Can I delete the icon from a post that is already live?

LinkedIn’s composer does not include a control that removes the credential from an image it already stored. The next still is the file you can change. The remove-the-CR-icon page is that case.

Will this remove Content Credentials from a LinkedIn video, a PDF, or an ad creative inside Campaign Manager?

The cleaner opens still images only (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, BMP). A video, a document, and a screenshot of the post are different files. For Sponsored Content, LinkedIn’s help says the icon on a single-image or video ad shows up when that media is uploaded, including ads built in Campaign Manager and posts sponsored from a Company Page. This tool does not open Campaign Manager.

I signed the image with Adobe Content Authenticity. Does stripping the export delete that?

No. A credential published to a cloud service is not in the local file this tool rewrites. Stripping an export drops the manifest from that export only. It does not un-verify a LinkedIn profile.

Will this remove an invisible watermark such as SynthID?

No. C2PA, EXIF, and XMP are metadata beside the picture. SynthID is in the pixels. Cleaning the file does not edit those pixels.

Clean the file, then publish that download

Use the tool above. Download only after the After report matches the tags you meant to remove.
