Cleans metadata in your browser. SynthID and TrustMark stay in the pixels. A cleaned file does not force Instagram to drop a label.
Instagram AI info is Meta’s label on the image. It is not a line in the caption.
Which label a file cleaner can touch
Meta’s labeling update says people can see whether a label came from industry-shared signals or from
self-disclosure. The first is a file job when those signals are C2PA Content Credentials or IPTC metadata in the
JPEG, PNG, or WebP you still have. The second is Instagram’s own control. The yes/no split is
can you remove an Instagram AI label.
Meta also said that for content it detects was only modified or edited by AI tools, it would move “AI info” into
the post menu, while content it detects was generated by an AI tool would keep the label people can see, and
that the label would say whether the reason was industry-shared signals or self-disclosure. Where the words sit
does not change which of those two reasons you are dealing with.
If you marked the image yourself, stop and use Instagram’s disclosure control. If the label cites
industry-shared signals, export the JPEG, PNG, or WebP you will actually publish. A screenshot of the
label is not that file. An iPhone HEIC works directly and comes back as a clean JPEG.

Read the C2PA line, then strip it
Inspect only. A C2PA line, Content Credentials XMP, or IPTC DigitalSourceType is metadata
this tool can list. The narrower check is
whether the image has C2PA credentials. Then
Clean this file in AI provenance mode and download only when the After column no
longer lists the tags you meant to remove.

Post the verified file
Upload the -cleaned download. Instagram does not offer a metadata editor on a photo that is
already published, so a live label stays until that post is replaced with a new upload. The owner page for
the strip is Instagram AI Info metadata.
What can still label the new upload
Meta’s February 2024 note on labeling says it identifies “AI generated” information in C2PA and IPTC, and that
its own Meta AI images use IPTC metadata and invisible watermarks. A metadata cleaner removes the first kind of
mark from a local still. It does not remove SynthID, TrustMark, or any other mark that lives in the pixels, and
it does not stop Instagram from applying a label with its own systems.
LinkedIn’s CR icon is a different reader of a C2PA credential, including credentials that do not assert AI. That
icon is LinkedIn Content Credentials.
Questions
Is “AI info” the same label as “Made with AI”?
Meta said it updated the “Made with AI” wording to “AI info” on July 1, 2024, because labels on minor AI edits were not matching people’s expectations. The file-level prep is the same family of badge. The older wording has its own page.
Can I clear an AI info label I turned on myself?
Use Instagram’s disclosure control if it is still offered. Stripping EXIF or C2PA does not withdraw a disclosure you submitted in the app.
Does a clean metadata report guarantee the label stays off?
No. Meta has also described invisible markers, including watermarks, on its own AI images, and a platform can label from signals this tool does not edit. A clean After report means the metadata this scanner lists is gone.
