Remove Adobe Firefly Content Credentials from a download

Adobe Firefly attaches Content Credentials — C2PA AI metadata — to generated JPEG and PNG exports. The manifest records that Firefly (or a Firefly-backed API) produced the asset. This page removes that manifest from the file on your device. It does not delete Adobe’s cloud copy or change pixels.

Cleans metadata in your browser. SynthID and TrustMark stay in the pixels. A cleaned file does not force Instagram to drop a label.

Do it in the tool, in this order

  1. Drop the JPEG, PNG, or WebP you will actually publish. Try sample only shows what a report looks like.
  2. Set the mode to AI only.
  3. Press Inspect only if you want to look. Press Clean this file to strip. The same press re-scans the result, and the After column is that new scan of the cleaned bytes.
  4. Press Download cleaned image. Upload that file. The name ends in -cleaned.

What Adobe states Firefly embeds

Adobe’s Content Credentials overview says credentials are applied automatically to content generated on Adobe Firefly and its APIs, supporting transparency for generative AI ( Adobe Help). Adobe’s Firefly Services security fact sheet adds that the Firefly API attaches a Content Credentials manifest to generated content, stores a cryptographic hash with the manifest in the Content Credentials Cloud, and lists typical fields: tools used, whether the asset was wholly generated or combined with other content, and a tamper-evident signature ( Firefly Services fact sheet). That manifest is the AI metadata AI provenance mode targets.

Prompts are not copied into those credentials. The same fact sheet says text prompts are never included in automatically generated Content Credentials. If you need to hide a prompt, it would have to live in some other metadata this tool lists — inspect first.

File vs cloud credential

Firefly keeps two related objects. The embedded manifest travels inside the download you can Inspect here. The Content Credentials Cloud copy lets Adobe recover credentials if someone strips the file. Rewriting your local export does not log into Adobe’s service or erase that cloud record. Validators with network access may still associate the image hash with Firefly history.

Photoshop’s export dialog can attach credentials, publish them, or both — see Photoshop Generative Fill metadata when the file came from a Generative Fill export rather than firefly.adobe.com.

Strip workflow

Save the Firefly download as JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Drop it in the tool above with AI only (AI provenance) selected. Press Inspect only to confirm a C2PA chip. Press Clean this file and download when the After column no longer lists Content Credentials. Upload that -cleaned file if you still want to publish without embedded credentials — knowing platforms may label from other signals. If you post to LinkedIn, the manifest is what its small CR icon is built from; see what the LinkedIn Content Credentials icon shows.

For byte-level detail on JUMBF / caBX, use remove C2PA. For the wider definition of AI tags including IPTC DigitalSourceType, see what is AI metadata.

What this does not do

  • Delete Adobe’s cloud Content Credentials entry.
  • Remove pixel watermarks or make Firefly output “undetectable.”
  • Force Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn to drop a label on a live post.
  • Open PSD, video, or audio — export a still image first.

Questions

Does Firefly always attach C2PA to downloads?

Adobe documents automatic credentials on Firefly and API outputs. Inspect your export to see this file’s manifest.

Are prompts in the credential?

Adobe states prompts are not included in auto-generated Content Credentials.

Does stripping the file erase Adobe’s cloud record?

No. Only the local file bytes are rewritten here.

Is Generative Fill the same page?

Same C2PA technology, different export workflow — use the Photoshop guide for PSD → Export As paths.

Clean the file, then publish that download

Use the tool above. Download only after the After report matches the tags you meant to remove.

Questions people ask

Does Adobe Firefly embed Content Credentials in the file?

Yes. Adobe’s Content Credentials overview states credentials are applied automatically to content generated on Adobe Firefly and its APIs. Adobe’s Firefly Services security fact sheet describes attaching a C2PA manifest to generated content and storing a hash in the Content Credentials Cloud.

Are text prompts stored in Firefly Content Credentials?

Adobe’s Firefly Services fact sheet states text prompts are never included in automatically generated Content Credentials.

If I strip the file, is the cloud credential deleted?

No. Adobe stores a manifest and cryptographic hash in the Content Credentials Cloud so credentials can be recovered if stripped from the export. This tool only rewrites your local JPEG, PNG, or WebP.

Is this the same as Photoshop Generative Fill?

Same C2PA family, different export path. Firefly web/API downloads are covered here. Photoshop Export As with Generative Fill history is on the Generative Fill metadata guide.
