ExifTool alternative for a web image
Use ExifTool when the job is Phil Harvey’s command-line tool: a Perl library and application that reads, writes, and edits metadata in a wide variety of files. Use this site when the file is a JPEG, PNG, or WebP and you want those tags removed in the browser, then checked on the cleaned file. Nothing is installed. A pixel watermark stays in the picture.

What the ExifTool page lists
| ExifTool | This tool | |
|---|---|---|
| Source | exiftool.org | This page |
| What it is | Platform-independent Perl library plus a command-line application. The download on that page is version 13.59 (May 27, 2026), plus a Windows executable and a macOS package. | A browser page. No installer. |
| Metadata | Reads, writes, and edits metadata in a wide variety of files. The read list on that page includes EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, and C2PA JUMBF. | Still images: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, BMP. Strips detected metadata, then scans the cleaned bytes. Does not write tags back. |
When ExifTool is the better choice
- You need to write or edit a tag, not only remove a set of them.
- You want a terminal command over a folder.
- The file is a format this page does not open.
What ExifTool does to C2PA files, rotation, and colour
We ran exiftool -all= on C2PA-signed JPEG, PNG, and WebP files and on a rotated JPEG, and wrote down
what it removed and what it also took. The results and the safer command are on
ExifTool remove all metadata.
