How to remove AI info from an Instagram carousel

An Instagram carousel looks like one post and uploads as many files. AI info follows the media Instagram marked, which can be a single slide. Clean each still you intend to include, then upload that set. The cover thumbnail is not a master file for the rest.

Cleans metadata in your browser. SynthID and TrustMark stay in the pixels. A cleaned file does not force Instagram to drop a label.

Clean one carousel slide

Strip mode

1 image free in this browser · Pro $9.99 one-time unlocks unlimited cleans + batch ZIP · How to use

Do it in the tool, in this order

  1. Drop the JPEG, PNG, or WebP you will actually publish. Try sample only shows what a report looks like.
  2. Set the mode to AI only.
  3. Press Inspect only if you want to look. Press Clean this file to strip. The same press re-scans the result, and the After column is that new scan of the cleaned bytes.
  4. Press Download cleaned image. Upload that file. The name ends in -cleaned.

Swipe first, then clean the slide that owns the chip

Open the live carousel and move through every frame. Tap AI info on the frame that shows it. Meta’s label is about that media: industry-shared signals or a disclosure. The grid cover is only slide one. A camera photo on slide one can be clean while slide four still carries a C2PA manifest from Photoshop, Firefly, or a generator. Clean slide four, leave the camera photo alone unless it has GPS you care about, and upload the set again. One leftover original in the picker keeps the chip on that swipe.

A carousel is several files

The composer asks for up to ten photos or a mix of photos and video. Each photo you pick from the camera roll is a separate JPEG, PNG, HEIC, or WebP with its own EXIF and, sometimes, its own C2PA manifest. Swiping to slide three loads different bytes than slide one. People searching how to remove AI info from an Instagram carousel often clean the image that shows in the grid and leave the generated slide in the middle untouched.

Video slides are out of scope for this cleaner. If the carousel mixes a Reel-like clip with stills, only the stills can be inspected here. The single-image workflow, without the multi-file bookkeeping, is remove AI info from an Instagram post.

Why one slide can be labeled and another not

A phone photo of a product has camera EXIF and no Content Credentials. The next slide, exported from an image model, may contain a C2PA manifest and a DigitalSourceType. Instagram can show AI info on the slide it associates with those tags or with its own detection, while the product photo stays unlabeled. You will not see that split if you only open the first file.

The opposite mix happens too: every slide was generated, but only one export kept the manifest because the others were screenshotted or re-saved by an app that dropped metadata. Screenshot slides can still be labeled later for non-metadata reasons. Check anyway, using how to check if a photo has AI metadata, so you know which files actually contain tags.

Clean every slide you will upload

1

Export a folder of stills in carousel order

Name them in sequence (01, 02, …). HEIC comes back as a clean JPEG. Do not flatten the carousel into one collage unless you truly want one image; a collage is a new file and a different post.

2

Inspect each file

Use the tool below, or the homepage tool, one file at a time on the free plan. Write down which slides show C2PA or AI chips. Leave truly clean camera photos alone if you want to keep their EXIF, or run privacy mode if the GPS pin is the problem. Mode details are in clean EXIF and AI metadata.

3

Verify the slides you cleaned

Download each cleaned file and, if the set is short, re-drop it. Replace only the slides whose after report cleared the tags you targeted. Keep the order. Pro batch exists if you would rather zip a pile of files; it does not change what the strip can and cannot remove.

4

Upload the verified set

Select the cleaned files in the same order. Avoid running Instagram’s generative edit on one slide after you verified it. That edit is a new, in-app source of a label. See possible versus not.

Crops, covers, and re-exports

Instagram’s grid shows the first slide, sometimes cropped. The crop preview is not a new master with its own metadata store that you can edit separately from the upload. If you need a specific cover, make that cover a real first file, inspect it, and put it first. Re-exporting a slide from a design tool can either preserve C2PA or write a fresh manifest. Inspect the export you will upload, not the project file you cannot post.

Music on a carousel does not hold JUMBF data. The soundtrack will not clear a labeled slide, and removing the song will not either.

After the carousel is public

You cannot swap slide two’s bytes inside a live carousel and keep the rest. Delete or archive the post and publish the verified set as a new carousel. If one slide is still labeled and its local verify was clean, that slide’s badge is not a missed EXIF field. Diagnose it with why Instagram still shows AI info instead of re-compressing the whole set.

Sharing a carousel to a Story reuses the post. A Story sticker will not scrub slide metadata. The Story-specific path is remove an AI label from an Instagram Story.

Facebook carousels and catalog-style multi-image posts are the same file problem under Facebook AI Info. The manifest itself is documented on Remove C2PA.

Clean the file, then publish that download

Use the tool above. Download only after the After report matches the tags you meant to remove.

Questions people ask

If I clean the first image, will the whole carousel lose AI info?

No. Each slide is its own file. Clean every slide you will upload. Instagram can label the slide that still contains provenance or that it classifies on its own.

Can I batch-clean a carousel for free?

The free tool is one file at a time, which is enough to inspect a short carousel carefully. Pro batch writes a ZIP if you need many files in one pass.
